Family Reunion

By Kathy Carlton Willis

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.

(Luke 15:20 NLT)

The more homesick a person becomes the sweeter the plans for reuniting with family. I’m not homesick for a place, but for my people. Oh how I long to go to a family reunion!

I think of a different glad reunion day. How precious when Jesus returned to His Father after the resurrection. He suffered many heartaches and afflictions, and had to endure them alone.

Jesus must have been elated to return to His heavenly home. Christ said He left earth to prepare a place for us. If it only took God six days to create the universe, can you imagine what can be done in two thousand years (and counting…)? Scripture also says that Jesus sits at the right hand of God. Oh the joy of being in the presence of the Father!

I love watching greeting and parting scenes. A lot can be said about a relationship by the body language of “hello” or “good-bye.” When Jesus returned to Heaven, I’m sure He ran into the open arms of His Father. (Of course, in my mind that happens in slow motion.) What a greeting! Did it seem like an eternity since God embraced His Son?

And one day, our day will come—when we can run into the arms of the Father. What a day of reunion that will be!

Father, I’m anticipating an amazing time of reunion when I come to be with You, but until then let me show a family-type love to those around me.
