An Arkansas school district is in the crosshairs of the war on Christmas.
The Ouachita River School District has officially renamed its annual Christmas program — surrendering to an anti-Christian hate group from Wisconsin.
Moving forward – the annual yuletide performance at Acorn High School will be known as the “holiday program.”
The school district also warned teachers that all school programs should not encourage or express a preference for a particular religion.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation had filed a complaint on behalf of a parent whose child allegedly got offended by songs about Jesus.
Among the songs specifically mentioned were “What Child is This” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
“The parent reports that the Music Department’s upcoming December 2025 “Christmas Concert” includes several overtly sectarian songs, and that Christmas songs, including Christian hymns, dominate the song list,” the out-of-town atheists wrote.
I know it must be hard for the feeble-minded atheists to grasp the idea that choirs traditionally sing Christmas songs during a Christmas concert.
“While the repertoire for the upcoming Christmas concert is somewhat diverse, it is problematic that the Music Department labeled the concert as a “Christmas” concert, specifically, and Christmas songs dominate the song list. The outsized emphasis on Christmas and Christianity raises constitutional concerns,” the atheists wrote.
The Acorn High School Music Department also came under fire because choral students attended a field trip to Eureka Springs – the home of a popular Passion Play. The students toured a Holy Land exhibit and sang at a chapel. Oh, the horror.

“It is unconstitutional for a public school to take students on religious field trips. It is also unconstitutional
to incorporate blatantly religious music at school concerts,” the FFRF wrote in a threatening letter to the school district. “We ask that the District investigate this situation and ensure that Acorn High School and all other District schools refrain from taking students on religious field trips or holding religious school concerts in the future.”
The Wisconsin-based anti-Christian hate group claims that the school district violated parental rights and the rights of students by forcing them to participate in religious activities.
Instead of telling the atheists to stuff it up their stocking – the school district surrendered.
“The District, will, from here on, title what has been called a Christmas program as a Holiday program,” the district’s attorney wrote in a letter to the atheists. “Going forward, selecting songs for this and other music performance will be done with an awareness that once again, any school program should not appear to be sponsoring, encouraging, or otherwise expressing a preference for a particular religion, or for religion over non religion.”
So don’t be surprised if the Acorn High School Choir’s “holiday” playlist includes tunes like “I saw daddy kissing Santa Claus,” “Rocking Around the Holiday Tree” and “I’m dreaming of a politically correct, secular holiday.”
