A group of University of California softball players learned a very important life lesson the other day – you don’t disrespect the national anthem in Cajun Country.
The Lady Bears were playing against the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
At the start of the game players from both teams stood along the baselines for the Star Spangled Banner. But about a half dozen California players took a knee.
Let’s just say Ragin Cajun fans did not approve. Watch what happened below.
According to reporters- fans hollered for the players to stand up. Others shouted about liberal wokeness. And at the conclusion of the anthem – booing commenced from the stands.
California newspapers said their players had been harassed and the university posted a statement defending their disrespectful behavior.
“We will always stand by our student-athletes for exercising their right to peaceful protest, as well as student-athletes from our opponents,” a Cal spokesperson said in a statement to the San Francisco Chronicle. “We are thankful our softball team was able to play the rest of its games last weekend without any further incident.”
But it appears to me that the Ragin’ Cajuns were just engaging in their constitutional rights. And they have a right to jeer and heckle a bunch of unpatriotic spoiled brats.
