Christian University Faces State Probe Over ‘LGBT’ Policies

Washington State has launched an investigation into the hiring practices of a Christian university. Click here to join Todd’s private Facebook page for conservatives.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson is reportedly probing Seattle Pacific University’s religious beliefs that prohibit the hiring of LGBT people.

“Seattle Pacific University admits that it refuses to hire gay faculty and staff,” Ferguson said in a statement obtained Friday by television station KIRO.

Should Christian schools be allowed to follow Bible's teachings on marriage?

Ferguson’s office sent a letter to the university, demanding “prompt production of voluminous and sensitive internal information on the University’s religious policies and their application to any and all faculty, staff, and administrators.”

The school, which is affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, has been targeted in recent months by massive protests from students who say the policies are homophobic and discriminatory.  They allege that students complained to the attorney general prompting the investigation.

Mr. Ferguson, you might recall, is the same man who declared war on the Christian owner of a flower shop. Baronelle Stutzman’s crime was refusing to participate in a same-sex wedding.

In response to the investigation, Seattle Pacific has filed a federal lawsuit against the attorney general.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty accused the attorney general of using state power to interfere with the religious beliefs of a religious university.

Lori Windham, senior counsel at Becket Law, said in a statement accused the state attorney general of “going after a 130-year-old Christian university and violating our country’s long-standing principle of the separation of church and state.”

“We will defend Seattle Pacific’s right to operate its school in accordance with its faith,” she added.

Free Methodists believe sexual intimacy is a gift from God and is a great blessing in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman.

“Free Methodists further believe that same-sex sexual intimacy is not in keeping with God’s best intention for the human family,” the lawsuit states. “These views on sexual intimacy have been the consistent position of the Free Methodist Church since its founding in 1860.”

So if a faculty member or student has an issue with the church’s theological position on LGBT issues, perhaps they should consider working at or attending a secular school?

I warned Americans in my book, “Culture Jihad: How to Stop the Left From Killing a Nation,” that there would soon be a price to pay for following the Bible’s teaching on sex. So I’m not surprised that godless government leaders are using the power of the courts to bully Christians into submission.

There’s really no excuse for Ferguson to squander taxpayer money on this investigation. Seattle Pacific University has all but admitted they are guilty of all charges. They decided a long time ago to follow God’s design for marriage, not the government’s.
