Western Heights Public Schools in Oklahoma is facing a firestorm after they hired a drag queen to be principal of the local elementary school.
The district claims Dr. Shane Murnan has an outstanding, 25-year career as an educator.
Dr. Murnan is also holds the title of Miss Gay Oklahoma and Miss Gay Oklahoma USA.
He was also charged with child pornography, but those charges were later dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
Ryan Walters is the state school superintendent in the Sooner State. He’s calling on the school district to fire Dr. Murnan.

He said it was unacceptable that a drag queen was running a grade school in Oklahoma.
“No parent wants to send their kids to school knowing that they could be exposed to this radical gender theory in any capacity. This woke war on our kids has to stop. We will not allow it in Oklahoma. This is the liberal insanity that every parent wants out of the classroom,” Walters told PJ Media.
“We will not allow our kids to be part of their radical-left game for pushing ideology and furthering their end goal, which is creating social justice warriors instead of students that understand how education is a path for success for them. We will not allow it. This will stop.”
However, the drag queen has lots of local support from other teachers as well as parents. And the district points out that it was Mr. Walters himself who signed off on the principal’s latest certification.
“According to news reports at the time, those charges were dismissed by the court, and the record of the charges has been expunged. Since that time, Dr. Murnan has continued to be certified as an elementary school teacher and principal, including having his certificate renewed in April of 2023 and signed by State Superintendent Ryan Walters,” Supt. Braydan Savage said in a statement.
Walters told Washington Examiner said it was “outrageous” to have a drag queen running an elementary school.
“I hear from parents every day that are concerned with this woke left-wing indoctrination or schools, this gender theory that continues to be thrust upon our kids. It’s completely inappropriate,” he told the newspaper.
“This individual is not fit to lead a school district,” Walters said. “It has to stop.”
But the real issue is about the kids – and whether or not the good people of Oklahoma want to turn their grade schools into drag bars.
