Sometimes doing the right things comes with a price.
The girls field hockey team at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School recently learned that lesson.
The girls were slated to play against Somerset-Berkely Regional High School. Instead, they forfeited the match.
That’s because a young man plays on the Somerset-Berkely team.
Superintendent Bill Runey issued a statement saying “there are times where we have to place a higher value on safety than on victory.”
“We understand that this forfeit will impact our chances for a league championship and possibly playoff eligibility, but we remain hopeful that other schools consider following suit to achieve and promote fair competition for female athletes,” Superintendent Runey said in a statement provided to Boston.com.
Last year a female Dighton-Rehoboth field hockey player was seriously injured by a male competitor. And the school did not want to risk the safety of their girls.
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association stands alongside so-called transgender athletes – boys who think they are girls.
“We respect and understand the complexity and concerns that exist regarding student safety,” the MIAA said. “However, student safety has not been a successful defense to excluding students of one gender from participating on teams of the opposite gender.”
In other words, they don’t care if muscular boys smack around girls on the athletic field.
Since when do the rights of boys who are cosplaying as girls trump the rights of girls who were born girls?
