Hello Americans. I’m Todd Starnes with news and commentary next.
Students at Eastlake High School in Washington State wanted to commemorate the September 11th terrorist attacks.
So they encouraged their classmates to wear red, white and blue at the Friday football game.
But when school leaders got word of their plans — they pulled the plug.
Radio station KTTH obtained emails from staffers. It seems they were concerned that a show of patriotism might be seen as racially insensitive. They also feared that other students might not see 9/11 as other see 9/11.
“At this point, I was fairly upset and confused as to why the theme was changed so I went around asking students in our leadership,” one student told the radio station. “They had explained that red, white, and blue was going to be seen as racially insensitive and may affect people in a way that we will not understand and for that reason that we were to change our theme.”
School leaders did not say what – exactly – was offensive about remembering the day when Muslim extremists waged jihad on American soil in the name of their religion.
One parent said she received an email from the principal explaining that leadership teachers “just did not want to unintentionally cause offense to some who see it differently.”
It’s worth noting that the school district does in fact celebrate and commemorate Muslim holidays.
Yet for some reason – Eastlake High School wants you to forget about a terrible day in American history that we must never forget.
