School Says Student’s American Flag-Themed Parking Lot ‘Might Offend Someone’
A North Carolina mother is accusing her son’s public high school of rejecting a senior parking spot design because it featured the American flag, claiming school officials told her it could offend someone. Lindsey Belue Anderson, of Union County, posted an emotional video on X after learning that a design submitted for her son Luke’s senior parking space at Marvin Ridge High School had been denied.
“Y’all, I truly think I’m the maddest I have ever been in my life,” Anderson said. “Like, I can feel my blood boiling.”
According to Anderson, seniors are required to submit parking spot artwork for approval before painting begins ahead of the new school year. She said her son, who plans to enlist in the U.S. military after graduation, submitted a simple design featuring the American flag and the words “Luke Class of ’27.”
“It got denied,” Anderson said. “The reason that it got denied is because the American flag may offend somebody at our school. Are you kidding me right now?… That our American flag may offend somebody at the school or a visitor to the school so he can’t put the American flag on his parking spot.”
The mother said the decision was especially upsetting because her son intends to serve the nation.
“My son, he’s gonna be a senior this year at Marvin Ridge High School. He’s enlisting in the military. So he’s going to be fighting for our country,” she said.
Anderson said the rejection left her questioning whether she should keep her son enrolled.
“It makes me wanna pull him out of school right now and just say to heck with it,” she said. “I’m so pissed off.”
One Todd Starnes Show listener condemned the school district’s decision.
“Does this public school play the national anthem at their ballgames,” one listener said. “Does the school fly the American flag on their flag pole? Or does that also offend someone. This is America and you can legally fly the flag and I would sue the school to allow this patriot to paint his parking spot with the flag.”
