A teacher at Salem Elementary School in Russell County, Kentucky is in hot water for telling kids about God.

The students were given assignments telling them that God created everyone. The children were then told to write three things that made them unique.

There was also an issue about the teacher giving the kids Nativity puzzles and a read-aloud story book called, “The Christmas Story.”

The Freedom From Religion Foundation says a concerned community member complained. They say the lessons promoted Christianity and she abused her position.

The Wisconsin-based atheists accused the teacher of turning her classroom into a Sunday school.

“To impose proselytizing assignments upon a captive audience of very young and impressionable students is a very serious misuse of authority by a public school teacher,” said FFRF co-founder Annie Laurie Gaylor. “We are relieved that the school district took prompt action to stop this abuse and protect student rights of conscience.”

The school district said in a letter to the atheists that they had met with the teacher and the situation had been resolved.

“On March 4, 2025, I met with the teacher mentioned in the letter and the school principal,” Russell County Schools Supt. Michael Ford responded in an email. “The situation has been resolved.”

We assume that means the teacher will no longer be allowed to tell the children that they were made in God’s image or that life is precious. Or that Jesus is the reason for the season.
