Todd Starnes: The Left is Turning American History into Pile of Rubble

“I’m gonna have a go at you,” Stuart Varney, Fox Business Network host told Fox Nation’s Todd Starnes, after inviting Starnes to share his “theory” about how Culture Jihad, the title of Starnes’ new book, is “destroying the nation.”

“Fair enough,” Starnes deflected, launching into an explanation of how Islamic radicals targeted Iraqi culture and turned its history into rubble – in the same way the Left has targeted free speech, art, and literature in America.

Art like a mural of George Washington; and books like “To Kill A Mockingbird,” and “Little House on the Prairie,” Starnes said, are in danger of being censored not by conservatives, but by liberals.

Starnes said this intense effort is “not just the war on religious liberty,” something previously well reported, but the new attack comes through the public school system, a phenomena well documented in Culture Jihad: How to Stop the Left From Killing a Nation.

In a lively 4-minute interview, Varney challenged Starnes’ conclusions, and insisted, “it’s picking around the periphery of our great freedoms, but as for destroying us, we are still a constitutional republic.”

After Starnes noted the country is moving rapidly toward socialism, Varney finally agreed, “It seems like it” – before asking about Facebook banning his publisher from purchasing ads to promote the book, due for release, Sept. 10.

“We were told the name of my book, Culture Jihad, violated Facebook community standards,” Starnes said. “They can’t get out there and say they support free speech if they are, quite frankly, involved in big tech book banning.”

Varney said Fox Business reached out to Facebook, but the social media giant had not yet responded.

The entire Facebook debacle affirms the book’s premise, Starnes said. “There is an attack on the basic values in the country. One of these is free speech.”

Again, Varney seemed ambivalent by the premise and title of the book, but not the sentiment, “I would absolutely agree with you,” he said about the attack on free speech, but cautioned, “I don’t think we’ve reached the point where our constitutional republic, which is what we are, is even close to being destroyed.”

Pushing for clarity, Starnes lobbed back, “This book just means saving the country. That’s what it’s all about, saving the country.”

“Todd Starnes, saving the country single handedly!” Varney joked, promising to read the book.
