It was just a few years ago that the term “African American” was considered the politically correct way to describe Americans whose ancestors came from America. Now, a private university in Waltham, Massachusetts is telling people that African American may be offensive.

In a report on Identity-Based Language, the Prevention, Advocacy & Research Center at Brandeis University suggests that unless someone wants to be identified as such, an African-American should be referred to as “Black (with a capital B).”

“For Black folks born in the United States, hyphenating their identity can be interpreted as othering,” says the Center. “Some folks do prefer to use African-American, particularly in connection to their ancestral roots, while others may identify with other ethnicities. We recommend using Black as a default, but being open to adjusting if asked to.”

Brandeis also takes exception to the phrases “I’m so OCD” and “long time no see.”

In July, Brandies made headlines for advising against words such as “picnic,” “rule of thumb,” and “oppressive.”

“Brandeis’ new language guide is so absurd that one might think it is satire upon first glance,” says Kara Zupkus, spokeswoman for Young America’s Foundation (YAF). “The school’s ultra-woke administrators are attempting to police the language of their students, bending over backwards to satisfy the whims of those offended by nearly everything.”

Zupkus adds that these students are the “future leaders, scientists, and teachers of tomorrow––and that should give everyone pause.”

Derryck Green, a political commentator, writer, and a member of the Project 21 Black Leadership Network of Black Conservatives, says this is another example of why four to five years in college isn’t worth the time or money.

Brandeis University charges close to $80,000 per year to police language it deems “offensive,”” says Green. “Politically-correct language that seeks to magically mitigate ‘discrimination’ and exemplify a sense of ‘equity’ is smug self-congratulation. This is another example of why four to five years in college isn’t worth the time or money.”
