Police reported an untold number of violent fights and a road rage shooting that left one person injured. Roadways were gridlocked on the small island for the annual “Orange Crush Festival.”
There were so many overdoses, Tybee Fire Dept. ran low on Narcan – a drug used to treat overdoses.

A large and violent mob also destroyed a police truck.
“Officers found people climbing and dancing on the truck,” television station WTOC reports. “The police department reports that when officers approached the crowd, people began throwing items, like bottles, at the officers.”
They had to deploy pepperballs when the angry mob tried to destroy another police car.
“Officers then began reporting people trying to damage another police vehicle. Law enforcement began deploying Pepperball again to disperse the crowd. Police report that someone in the crowd fired a gunshot,” the television station reported.
Videos show student twerking on top of police vehicles and fighting in parking lots. It was mayhem. There were also a number of car accidents — including one crash that left seven people injured.
The Tybee Island Police Department said it made 18 arrests and responded to over 300 calls during Orange Crush weekend. The also made multiple DUI arrests and confiscated a number of firearms.
Tybee Mayor Shirley Sessions said in a statement to Savannah Now that this year’s Orange Crush Festival “was admittedly too large and chaotic.”
“But at the end of the day, Tybee Island is fortunate that no lives were lost and no property destroyed,” Sessions said.
