The Rockingham County School Board passed a new policy that makes the American flag the predominant flag in classrooms. The gay pride flag and flags from other nations will no longer be permitted.
The school board chairman says he wants students to be proud to be Americans and to honor Old Glory.
“We want the American flag to be the predominant flag seen by all of our students. We want our students to be proud to be Americans and for those same emotions to rise up within them that rise up inside many of us when they stand to honor our nation’s flag, with their shoulders squared and their right hand covering their heart, giving thanks to God for those brave men and women who have given their lives for our great nation,” board chairman Matt Cross told television station WHSV.
The school board says the goal of the policy is to promote patriotism and reduce division among students.

“It’s sad we even have to have a flag policy,” Cross said in a follow-up interview with The Daily News-Record newspaper. “We live in a generation where there are so many causes, and for every cause you can think of out there, there’s a flag attached to it.”
What a refreshing take on the purpose of a public school classroom – and no doubt Rockingham County will be raising up generations of patriots.
The Rockingham County School Board gets an A+ for patriotism and for recognizing that the point of the taxpayer-funded education system is not to promote a radical sex agenda. Instead, our classrooms are intended to promote American values and American exceptionalism.
