Baylor Professor Rewrites 200-year-old, ‘Sexist’ Hymn

Baylor University, which one declared itself the largest Baptist university in the world, has become infected by a raging mob of woke professors. It’s a major infliction among many Christians Schools In Name Only, as I write in my new book, “Twilight’s Last Gleaming: Can America Be Saved?”

Greg Garrett, a self-described pro-choice, gay-affirming and trans-affirming English professor, said the 200-year old hymn, “Brethren We Have Met to Worship,” is sexist.

The woke professor was first exposed by the news website Protestia as well as Woke Preacher Clips.

“The last thing that I’ll mention is because I’m Episcopalian, I don’t like to interrupt liturgy. Liturgy is holy. It works when it’s together,” the We have a song that is 200 years old, which will be our opening hymn. I am well aware that the title ‘Brethren We Have Met to Worship’ is sexist,” the leftist professor told a recent gathering.

Here are the lyrics so you can judge for yourself:

Brethren, we have met to worship and adore the Lord our God;
Will you pray with all your power, while we try to preach the Word?
All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down;
Brethren, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.

Brethren, see poor sinners round you slumb’ring on the brink of woe;
Death is coming, hell is moving, can you bear to let them go?
See our fathers and our mothers, and our children sinking down;
Brethren, pray and holy manna will be showered all around.

Sisters, will you join and help us? Moses’ sister aided him;
Will you help the trembling mourners who are struggling hard with sin?
Tell them all about the Savior, tell them that He will be found;
Sisters, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.

Let us love our God supremely, let us love each other, too;
Let us love and pray for sinners,till our God makes all things new.
Then He’ll call us home to heaven, at His table we’ll sit down;
Christ will gird Himself, and serve us with sweet manna all around.

Brethren We Have Met to Worship

“So please know that I am not trying to say, ‘Hey, let’s have a conference about racism and diminish women.’ That is absolutely not the message I’m intending to send,” he added. So I want you to know this, and you will probably notice if you’re familiar with the hymn. I have edited it and moved verses around so that sisters, you are just as important as brethren.”

You might recall that Garrett recently garnered national headlines when he lectured Harry Potter creator JK Rowling over her “hatred” of transgender people.

“Today in my Harry Potter class [at Baylor], we had a hard and necessary conversation about JK Rowling and her hatred of trans- people,” the English professor wrote. “We decided novelist Rowling, who wrote with compassion about diversity, equity, and inclusion, is worth our attention. Twitter Rowling? Shame on her.”

The question is whether Professor Garrett was a diversity hire or if he represents the mainstream views of Baylor’s faculty?
