NOTE: Facebook fact checkers point out the police said the suspects were NOT Popeyes employees. We noted that in our story below – but for the sake of clarity- we posted above the story as well.
Popeyes customers in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri were greeted with an unusual sign at the drive-thru.
“Effective 6-1-21 This restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, General Manager, Mason,” the sign read.
Police say they are investigating the incident as a case of trespassing and vandalism.
“We have been made aware of the situation and are investigating the matter immediately. This type of behavior does not align with our brand values and we take such allegations very seriously. The Franchise is cooperating with local authorities regarding this ongoing investigation,” the fast-food chain said in a statement.
Investigators believe the culprits were not employees of Popeyes.
“I saw it all over Snapchat,” customer Abigail Reed told television station KTVI. “I just think it’s kind of immature for someone to put it on there.”
