The Chattanooga Lookouts were forced to redesign a team t-shirt after fans complained that the message could be perceived as racist. I kid you not, America.
The Lookouts are the minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds based in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The new t-shirt combined the “Nooga” nickname – with a pair of eyes substituted for the pair of “o’s.”
The Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, tried to combine its “Nooga” nickname and its logo of two eyes, and it did not go well.
Some fans said it resembled a racist slur and that’s when the triggering commenced.
“The design was pulled from the Lookouts website and WTVC Channel 9 ABC news reported that an Internet Archive of the team’s merchandise site still showed the design being for sale on July 23,” the Tennessean reports. “Though the merch was pulled, others have quickly latched on to the design for their own use and can be found on numerous websites.”
The country has gone plum batty, folks.
