A bunch of godless heathen atheists tried to bully the wrong sheriff.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation demanded that the Columbus County Sheriff remove a Bible verse that had been painted on a wall of the sheriff’s office.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” read the verse from Philippians.

“The Supreme Court has said time and time again that the ‘First Amendment mandates government neutrality between religion and religion and between religion and non-religion,” FFRF attorney Chris Line wrote to Sheriff Jody Greene. The court has also ruled, ‘The Establishment Clause, at the very least, prohibits government from appearing to take a position on questions of religious belief.'”

FFRF co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor blasted the Bible verse and said it had to be erased.

“The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office must serve all citizens equally, whether Christian or non-Christian,” she said. “A blatantly Christian message in a law enforcement division sends a message of exclusion.”

Sheriff Greene defended the Bible verse noting that it was paid for with private funds.

“The verse is one of my favorite Bible verses, and it seemed fitting for all the adversity I have had to endure. It is very motivational to me and my staff,” he wrote on the department’s Facebook page. “Here at the Sheriff’s Office, we work hard in everything that we do. Before we execute a search warrant, or any service that puts our people in immediate harms way, we ALWAYS go to the Lord with a group prayer. ALWAYS!”

He accused the FFRF of playing politics and noted that he’s taken many pictures with the Bible verse in the background without any issues.

“It seems to me we have a few sheep in wolves clothing. That’s all. This is a political ploy. Some want a person that they can control,” he said.

Most folks around Columbus County support the sheriff, including five county commissioners and Rep. Brendon Jones.

Just look at where our society is headed. It is time, past time, to stand up. So let me be clear, I will not waiver on my stance and Christian beliefs,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff pointed out that many companies spend thousands of dollars on motivational classes and slogans.

“My motivation comes from the greatest motivational speaker of all times, Jesus Christ. Currently, in Columbus County, we are at 180 overdoses,” he said. “Drugs and violence are killing our youth. We need more Jesus and less politics.”

How refreshing to see our leaders stand up to the godless heathens who want to silence people of faith. The Todd Starnes Show is proud to stand alongside Sheriff Greene as he battles the FFRF. God bless you, Sheriff Greene!
