Democrats blocked a $1.8 trillion stimulus spending bill to protect small business owners and provide relief to American families who are suffering as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
At issue is how to ensure Americans will continue to receive paychecks in the midst of a national emergency.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said the draft package “significantly cut back our hospitals, our cities, our states, our medical workers and so many others needed in this crisis.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted Democrats and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“She’s the speaker of the House, not the speaker of the Senate,” an angry McConnell said. “The American people are watching this spectacle.”
McConnell said the notion that lawmakers have time to play games with the American economy and the American people is absurd.
“We’re fiddling here – fiddling with the emotions of the American people, fiddling with the markets, fiddling with our healthcare,” he said. “If we aren’t able to act tomorrow it’s because of the Democrats.”
Let me explain what’s really happening in Washington, D.C.
The Democrats want the stock market to tank because they believe that will doom the president’s reelection bid.
The Democrats do not care if your children go to bed hungry. They do not care if the bank forecloses on your home. They do not care if your small business goes bankrupt.
In essence, Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader Schumer are sending a very clear message to taxpayers: let the people suffer.
