The first threat came a few weeks ago: “Gas the Jews.”
That’s what the postcard read. It was delivered to Ali’s Cookies, a small shop owned by a Jewish couple in Atlanta. The shop near Emory University.
Sagi and Nofar Shablis moved from Israel two years ago. Both served in the Israeli Defense Forces. They are pro-Israel. And they fly the Israeli flag on their property.

And because of that – Ali’s Cookies has become a target of antisemites. Business is down 50 percent since October 7th.
Their building has been vandalized – paint splattered on the walls – windows broken. A man stormed into the cookie store and harassed customers.
“Some people come in and spit on the floor,” Nofar Shablis told television station WAGA. “There were a few people who wanted to buy, but said ‘we do not support murderers.’ There were a few times people tried to tear up the flag at the front of the store.”
The same thing happened in the 1930’s in Germany – when Jewish-owned business were targets of boycotts and worse.
What is old is new again – this time in America.
