Brooklyn Center police officer Kimberly Potter resigned yesterday, but today she is being charged with second-degree manslaughter for the death of Daunte Wright.
The bodycam footage revealed that officer Kimberly Potter intended to shoot Wright with her taser but instead fired a gunshot, which struck Wright as he was resisting arrest. Wright died from the shot and crashed his car in the process.
Potter has been on the police force for over two decadess. Now, she faces up to ten years in jail and a $30,000 fine.
According to the Minnesota statute, when someone “creates an unreasonable risk, and consciously takes chances of causing death or great bodily harm to another” is guilty of manslaughter in the second degree
“The person who created an unreasonable risk was Daunte Wright,” said nationally-syndicated radio host Todd Starnes. “Officer Potter is being offered up as a sacrifice to the Black Lives Matter thugs.”
