DEVELOPING STORY: Five people are dead after a shooting inside a church in the Arden area of Sacramento County, officials said.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a father shot and killed his three children inside the Church of Sacramento before shooting and killing himself.
There is a fifth victim, but there is no known information about that individual.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Rodney Grassmann said multiple people were killed and the shooter killed himself. Medics were initially called shortly after 5 p.m. to the area near Wyda and Ethan ways.
A large number of patrol vehicle filled the area just south of The Church in Sacramento.
The Sheriff’s Office announced shortly after 6 p.m. there remained “a large police presence” near Wyda and Ethan ways, along with the area near Howe Avenue and Cottage Way.
City Councilman Eric Guerra referred to the incident as a “mass casualty shooting” at a church in a message urging people to be alert in the area.
