DEVELOPING STORY: An active shooter has been reported at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond where a high school graduation ceremony was underway. Multiple people were shot.
At least four or five people were shot. There were also injuries reported after people fled the scene. Video shows several victims on the ground being tended to by passersby.
There’s no word on a suspect or a motive for the shooting.
Students on campus received an emergency alert telling them to stay indoors. There’s a heavy police presence at Altria Theater across from Monroe Park.
“This is heartbreaking,” Rep. Jennifer McClellan wrote on Twitter. “Praying for the safety of everyone involved.”
Mayor Levar Stoney in a tweet said: “Currently monitoring the situation at Monroe Park. In touch with RPD and RPS. Will make information available as it comes in. Please avoid the area.”
