Ford’s Theatre, which is run by the National Park Service, is questioning the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln. It’s a bit ironic seeing how Lincoln was assassinated inside their theater.
“Do you ever feel we, as a nation, put Abraham Lincoln ‘on a pedestal,'” they wrote on their official Twitter account. “What do you think might be a more useful, more complex or more realistic way to think about or memorialize the 16th president.”
Apparently freeing the slaves, defeating the South and restoring the union was not good enough for the folks who run Ford’s Theatre.
Lincoln was shot dead at Ford’s Theatre by John Wilkes Booth, an actor.
I wonder if Ford’s Theatre ever feels like, as an entertainment venue, that they could have done more to provide security during a presidential visit?
