DEVELOPING STORY: Cracker Barrel customers dove for cover when bullets started flying outside the restaurant in Round Rock, Texas.
“Very thankful to be safe after eating a lovely breakfast at Cracker Barrel when we were violently disturbed by an active shooter,” one eyewitness wrote on social media. “It will be a while till we go out to eat any time soon.”
“Got seated, ordered my dumplings, started eating and heard popping noise,” one diner wrote. “Saw people diving under tables.”
“God just saved my wife from getting shot five minutes after leaving Cracker Barrel in Round Rock,” another person wrote.
Here’s how one eyewitness described the scene:
There were 2 off duty police officers discussing what to do, turned out they didn’t have to do anything, lots of police outside already. After several minutes people were getting up. The person beside me started seizing ended up being taken to hospital, at least ems were already there. The police sergeant came in and told us that dps had been in a chase, they wrecked and person shot at them. Everything was cleared and we could leave when ready. As I was walking out a man saw what happened and said a girl was shooting at the police and police shot back and killed the girl. No shots were shot into Cracker Barrel. People were calm and staff was great.
Round Rock Police say there was an incident involving a Texas Dept. of Public Safety officer and a suspect at the Cracker Barrel.
They say the suspect was in a stolen car and led police on a chase that ended at the Cracker Barrel.
Television station KVUE says the suspect is dead after pointing a gun at officers. No one inside the Cracker Barrel was believed to be injured.
