Knott’s Berry Farm was evacuated Saturday after dozens of teenagers riot and clashed with security. At least three people were injured in the melee.
“I just seen like people fighting and hitting security,” a teenage witness told television station ABC7. “I seen people on the floor bleeding. It was like a riot. It was bad.”
Annette Duran, a CBSLA staffer who was at the park Saturday night, described witnessing multiple fights and then stampedes of park-goers trying to get out of the way.
Fans of the amusement park say they’ve reached their breaking point.
“I’m tired of trash people ruining places like Knotts Berry Farm for everyone else. If the police and government officials won’t do anything. We’re going to have to do it ourselves,” Ruben Reveles wrote on Twitter.
Another wrote, “This is inane that so many fights broke out at Knotts berry farm that they had to close. What in the world is going on with people? Kids can’t even enjoy a nice day w/ their family at Knott’s Berry Farm w/out it being ruined. This insanity has to stop.”
Meanwhile, Knott’s Berry Farm issued the following statement:
“The safety of Knott’s Berry Farm’s guests and associates is always our top priority. On Saturday evening, the decision was made to close the park 3 hours early due to unruly behavior and altercations involving a number of teenagers. This behavior did not align with our park’s values, and was not the experience we want any guest to have while visiting Knott’s Berry Farm.”
“I saw a whole bunch of people running out and that’s what triggered me and I was like, ‘What’s happening?’” visitor Tina Rodriguez told KABC. “I asked more people and they were like, ‘Oh, there was a possible shooting.’ But I wonder how that could’ve happened with all the metal detectors.”
