DEVELOPING STORY: Multiple people were reportedly struck by a motorist who drove a pickup truck into a crowd gathered for a Christmas parade in Bakersfield, California. At least three people were seriously injured. There’s no word just yet on others who might have been hurt.
Eyewitnesses say police apprehended the driver. Police did not say whether it was an accident or if it was intentional. However, there were reports that the driver smelled of alcohol.
“These poor kids just watched people get hit. It’s a mess down here,” one spectator told the Bakersfield Californian. “You don’t know if these people are dead.”
The parade was rerouted around the accident location and continued without incident — under the watchful eye of police.
