A tiny pop-up library stand about the size of a bird house was removed from a roadway in a rural part of Illinois after a bunch of atheists filed a complaint with the Illinois Dept. of Transportation.
The “Little Free Library” was located at the intersection of Old Route 66 and Livingston County East – an area populated mostly by trees and wildlife. Local residents could either take a book or read a book for free.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation claims a “concerned community member” came across the tiny kiosk in the middle of nowhere and became enraged after discovering the library was filled with “Christian” books.
“There was a Latin cross painted on the side of the library,” the Wisconsin-based atheist gang alleged. And that, they said, was illegal.
“The government cannot constitutionally show favoritism towards religion over nonreligion, or one religion over other faiths,” wrote atheist lawyer Samantha Lawrence in a letter to the Illinois Dept. of Transportation. “Religious imagery and a Christian-only little free library on state property sends an exclusionary message that may needlessly alienate travelers and community members who are non-Christians, including the nearly 30 percent of the population who are not religious.”
Ms. Lawrence’s vile clients called for an investigation and declared that the “religious imagery must be removed.” And they also charged that the library was not permitted to include books that “only promote one favored religious viewpoint.”
The Illinois Dept. of Transportation did in fact investigate and they sided with the atheists.
“The Illinois Department of Transportation has not posted or has no record of a permit issued to install this small kiosk within the state-maintained highway rights-of-way in that location,” they wrote in a letter to the anti-Christian hate gang. “Last week, our local IDOT field maintenance yard crew inspected the area and removed the ‘Little Free Library’ kiosk in accordance with our policy regarding signs, billboards or advertising on IDOT property and Illinois highways right-of-way.”

Annie Laurie Gaylor, one of the most vile anti-Christian thugs in the nation praised the government agency for destroying the library stand.
“An overtly Christian library being operated on government property gave the impression that this was being done with the approval of the state of Illinois,” Gaylor snarled in press release. “We’re glad that our notifying the Illinois Department of Transportation got this illegally placed structure removed.”
Did the atheists consider that the good people in Livingston County are church-going Christians and therefore don’t read books about atheism? Or may be the godless heathens who do live in Livingston County are illiterate?
