DEVELOPING STORY: At least five people were killed and 18 were wounded when a gunman opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Colorado Police said the gunman entered Club Q and immediately began shooting at people.
“While the suspect was inside the club at least two heroic people inside the club confronted and fought with the suspect and were able to stop the suspect from continuing to kill and harm others. We owe them a great debt of thanks,” Police Chief Adrian Vasquez said during a press conference.

Lt. Pamela Castro, a police spokesperson, told reporters the suspect was injured, in custody and receiving treatment at a hospital. She declined to comment on a motive and said the FBI was assisting in the investigation.
However, the nightclub said the shooting was a hate crime.
“Club Q is devastated by the senseless attack on our community. Our prayers and thoughts are with all the victims and their families and friends. We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack,” the club wrote in a statement.
The first 911 call came at 11:56 p.m. and police were on the scene by 12:02 a.m.
“We know one or more patrons heroically intervened to subdue the subject. Those patrons clearly saved lives,” said Mayor John Suthers at the morning press conference.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) condemned the act of domestic terrorism.
“The news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful. This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers. This lawless violence needs to end and end quickly,” she said.
