Massive Explosion Rocks Arlington, Virginia

DEVELOPING STORY: A house in Arlington, Virginia exploded into a massive fireball Monday night as police officers tried to serve a warrant. A bystander captured the moment the house exploded on video. which you can watch below.

“I think it blew up the entire duplex,” one neighbor told ARLnow in the immediate aftermath. “I’m sure the family next door was evacuated before it blew up but they lost their home.”

A preliminary investigation indicated that the resident had fired a flare gun about 30 to 40 times inside his home into the surrounding neighborhood, according to a statement from the police, The New York Times reported.

Arlington County Police said officers suffered only minor injuries and none were taken to the hospital. There’s no word on the suspect.

“We have not been able to access the home at this point, so I don’t have the status of the suspect,” said Ashley Savage, a spokeswoman for the Arlington County Police Department, by phone. The man was “believed to be inside the residence at the time of the explosion.” The investigation into the explosion is ongoing, the police said in the statement.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office said he is closely monitoring the situation in Arlington this evening. Residents were urged to shelter in place. Watch video of the explosion below and click here to get my daily newsletter filled with exclusive conservative content.
