Rep. Ilhan Omar Joins Call to Dismantle & Defund Police Departments

Efforts to defund and dismantle local police departments are gaining steam across the nation.

The Minneapolis city council says they are going to completely defund and dismantle the department.

“We recognize that we don’t have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like, but our community does,” nine council members said in a prepared statement. “We’re committed to engaging with every willing community member in the City of Minneapolis over the next year to identify what safety looks like for you.”

Lawmakers promised voters a police-free future. And they have a veto-proof majority.

“We can’t reform a system that is rotten, reimagining and reconstructing a new way forward is a better approach,” Rep. Ilhan Omar wrote on Twitter. “The Minneapolis Police Department has proven themselves beyond reform. It’s time to disband them and reimagine public safety in Minneapolis.”

Militant activists are using the murder of George Floyd to advance a radical agenda to fundamentally transform our country. Part of that effort is to dismantle law enforcement.

But the truth is there is not an epidemic of police officers shooting black men. According to the Washington Post, 9 unarmed blacks were killed by cops last year. 19 unarmed whites were killed by cops.

The vast majority of American police officers are good and decent people. They put their lives on the line every day to ensure that you and your family and your business are safe.

Let’s be clear – defunding police departments will simply destabilize the nation – and that’s the point. The Left wants to create unrest to take down the Trump administration.

Soon Americans across the nation will have to decide for themselves – do you want law and order or anarchy and chaos?
