San Diego Orders Grocery Store & Gas Station Workers to Wear Masks

Grocery store workers in San Diego have been ordered by the county government to wear protective masks by today.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the mandate requires all employees at grocery stores, pharmacies/drug stores, convenience stores and gas stations to wear a cloth covering their faces if they come into contact with the public.

Ron Fong, the president of the California Grocers Association wonders how they will be able to comply with such short notice.

“Grocers are working around the clock to safely secure the food and essentials for the citizens of California. The safety of our employees and customers is always our first priority, and even more so during this health crisis,” he said in a statement. “With such short notice given by San Diego County, grocery companies will be scrambling to be in compliance by Saturday’s deadline.”
