DEVELOPING STORY: The New York City judge overseeing President Trump’s hush money trial strongly suggested the former president may not be able to attend Barron’s high school graduation.
“I was looking forward to that graduation with his mother and father there, and it looks like the judge does not allow me to escape this scam,” Trump, 77, told reporters in the hallway of Manhattan Supreme Court after the first day of trial.

Trump’s attorneys had asked Justice Juan Merchan not to hold the trial on Friday, May 17 so the ex-president can attend Barron’s graduation at Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida.
However, the judge ordered that Trump had to appear in court every day of the trial – expected to be about eight weeks in length.
“If you do not show up, there will be an arrest,” the judge said.
The former president faces trumped up charges that he faked business records to cover up a sex scandal before winning the presidency. At worst, the accusations would amount to a bookkeeping error – which would have been a misdemeanor charge, not a felony.
The judge declined Mr. Trump’s request to recuse himself.
