A 78-year-old Tennessee woman at Hilldale Baptist Church was robbed while she was praying, according to the Clarksville Police Department.
Two black females entered the Wednesday night service and asked the woman to pray for one of them.
“While they were praying, the second female rummaged through the victim’s purse and stole her wallet,” the police said.
The heist was conducted by four women who then went to Sam’s Club and used her credit card.
Pastor Larry D. Robertson told his congregation he was “very angry” after he found out about the theft on Feb. 9.
“While they had their eyes closed and their heads bowed, the other girl got into our church member’s purse and … got credit cards, cash, everything. And closed it back up. And amazingly that’s when the prayer finished,” Robertson said.
“It’s too bad God is still not in the business of smiting people, ” national radio host Todd Starnes said, “or turning them into pillars of salt.”
Police are asking the public for help in identifying the four women involved in the robbery.
