400+ Arrests: Violent Mob Riots in Newport Beach, California
A rampaging mob of thugs caused mayhem and destruction in one of the wealthiest communities in the nation. Police were forced to declare an unlawful assembly and shut down the beaches in Newport Beach, California – turning a Fourth of July celebration into a disaster.
A number of police officers were injured and more than 400 people were arrested. T
City leaders said social media posts drew a large influx of juveniles and young adults to the Newport Pier area within a matter of minutes. As the crowd quickly grew into the thousands, dangerous and unlawful behavior escalated, blocking roadways, preventing emergency access and putting families, visitors and first responders at risk.
Those responsible for violent and criminal behavior will be held accountable, city leader said.
Newport Beach Fire Department personnel also responded to 102 emergency incidents, including 10 fires, while continuing to provide emergency medical care across the city.
An untold number of businesses were also looted by the violent mob – including a grocery store. Video shows dozens of watermelons destroyed and considerable other damage to the building. Watch videos below and click here to get my breaking news alerts delivered to your inbox.
“Not one of these people live here, but are failed policies of weak parenting, weak California governing and just POS human beings,” one infuriated resident posted on X. “I have kids this age, they don’t act like this, so please don’t tell me it’s an age thing. This is ghetto behavior and will come to all upscale communities as long as we keep asking for diversity and zero consequences.”
“One would never imagine the riots, looting, and wanton destruction that had occurred during the night at not only the beach parking area but also in areas of the peninsula,” another resident wrote. “Who was responsible, I hope that they are held accountable. With cameras everywhere, I’m sure that there is video evidence to prosecute those people who did this to OUR city!”
By 8:25 p.m., police issued a public alert warning residents that the situation had grown more serious near 26th Street and the beach. “Due to large unruly crowds in the area of 26th street and the beach an unlawful assembly has been placed,” Newport Beach police said. “All residents are asked to shelter in place until further notice.”
Bars and restaurants were ordered to shut down out of safety concerns.
The lawlessness prompted police to take the extraordinary step of closing the city’s beaches. At 10:50 p.m., the department warned: “Please be advised, all Newport Beach beaches are CLOSED. The Newport Beach Police Department is actively clearing traffic from the Peninsula. Please avoid the area until further notice.”
