A Chick-fil-A staffer in Collierville, Tennessee is being hailed as a hero after he came to the rescue of a police officer who was being beaten outside the restaurant chain’s drive-thru. And the entire incident was captured on video which you can see below.
The video shows an unhinged man brutally bearing the police officer. Several eyewitnesses rushed to help the officer — including a Chick-fil-A staffer who detained the suspect until a second police officer showed up.
Television station WREG in Memphis reports eyewitness Kyle James also jumped in to help despite his broken arm.
“It hits close to home. My father-in-law is a police officer and I just think that police officer has family and stuff like that. If it was a normal person I’d step in too,” he told the television station.
Local residents heaped praise on the unidentified worker who detained the suspect and many said he deserved a pay raise.
“The Chick-fil-A employee who stepped in to help stop the man who was hitting the officer deserves recognition,” said one resident. “The CFA employee should get employee of the year for the nice takedown of the person.”
The Collierville Police Department said the suspect was suffering a mental crisis and was taken to a local mental health facility for treatment.
“Our officer was treated for minor injuries and will make a full recovery,” the police department said in a statement. “We appreciate the citizens who offered assistance during this call for service.”
And I’m fairly certain that in response the Chick-fil-A worker replied, “My pleasure.”
