It’s Time to Get Your Eyes Fixed!

But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord; in you I take refuge (Psalm 141:8 NIV).

A snake went to the ophthalmologist to get his eyes fixed. The procedure went well, and he could see better than ever, but the snake was unhappy and disappointed. Why? He learned he had been in love with a garden hose!

That’s a silly story, but something similar happened after my mother-in-law’s cataract surgery. Once she got home, she noticed her floors and immediately called a carpet cleaner. She couldn’t believe how filthy they were and was embarrassed she hadn’t known.

Getting our eyes fixed changes the way we see things.

This holds true with our spiritual eyesight as well. Our vision can become hazy if we spend too much time focusing on our troubles, trials, or inadequacies. The more we concentrate on them, the more they start to dominate our lives. We might lose our hope.

But when we get our eyes fixed—turn our attention to the Lord—we start to see things in a different light. God’s purposes and plans are clearer. His hand at work in our lives is obvious. We better understand His perspective. We realize that our circumstances don’t change who God is, they show us who God is. And we’re able to rest in Him.

Is it time to get your eyes fixed?

Lord, thank you for your lessons in spiritual ophthalmology. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you.
