Meet Ms. Molly and Her Bible Box

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”

Proverbs 30:5

By Lori Brown

I’d love for you to meet my young church friend, Molly. At the age of 9, she’s a high-energy Jesus lover. I recently noticed that she was struggling with some of the big words in the King James and could benefit from a children’s version.

A few weeks later I entered the local bookstore and picked up a hot pink children’s version with inspiring graphics. I carried it into Bible study that week, still in its boxed protection, placed it in her hands and said, “I want you to enjoy reading the Bible. Does this help?”

The look on her sweet face in that moment was priceless, but in the days to follow, I realized that she was still carrying the Bible in its hard box. I looked at her and said, “Ms. Molly, you can toss the box,” to which she quickly responded, “I know! But I don’t want to. I want to keep it like this.” It took a few moments for me to grasp her meaning.

My sweet friend wanted to keep that precious Bible protected because it had great value and meaning. The hot pink Word of God held a special place in her hands and heart.

I often think about Ms. Molly and her Bible box, wondering if I’m willing to treat God’s Word the same way. Am I, and are you, willing to hide God’s word deep inside your heart, soul, and mind so that we remain protected from temptation and challenged by the Spirit?

Dear God, help me to follow Ms. Molly’s lead and never diminish or doubt the power of your Word for my life.
