John Solomon, the founder of Just The News, wrote a children’s book to combat censorship and teach kids to love America.
The book is entitled “Hidden Headlines” and was published by Brave Books, a Christian conservative publishing company.
“There are two generations of young adults in America who came through the education system, who did not get those values of freedom instilled in them,” Solomon said on the “Todd Starnes Show.” “They weren’t given the civics lessons we got. They didn’t understand why the First Amendment was first. They were actually, it was even suggested to them that in certain circumstances, government sanctioned censorship could be good for America, good for the larger collective.”
Solomon went on to explain that he hopes his book will help combat censorship and teach children American values.
“I wanted to create a storyline that would be delightful to children with fun animal characters like Seymour Clues and Chunk the Hamster and Penelope the Peacock, but embed in that a lesson that moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles could share with their children just in case their school, their educators or principals don’t give it to them.”
The book is inspired by Solomon’s personal experiences dealing with censorship as a journalist. Namely, the censorship he faced while covering the Hunter Biden lap top scandal.
In the story, the island where all of the animal characters live is about to be overrun by a flood. Instead of trying to warn the others, a mean koala bear named Karl tries to stop Chunk the Hamster’s newspaper from getting to the others to warn them.
After reading the book, Solomon said he hopes children will understand the importance of free speech and the First Amendment.
The author said working with Brave Books to create this book was some of the most fun he has ever had.
“I told them what I wanted to do,” Solomon said. “I told them I want to tell a story of the hamster and get the free speech and censorship down to 5 to 11 year olds and in a colorful way. And they put together this amazing opportunity for me. It was some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”
