Parents are reportedly upset after eighth-grade girls at an exclusive New York City academy were shown a race-based video of a comedian mocking white women last month.
A history teacher at The Spence School for girls, where tuition is listed at more than $57,000 per year, showed the class an episode of Ziwe Fumudoh’s Showtime series “Ziwe,” where white women are mocked.
The comedian asks writer Fran Lebowitz, “What percentage of white women do you hate? And there is a right answer.”
She also mocked four white women named “Karen,” defining “Karens” as “obnoxious, angry and entitled, often racist, white women, “as well as showing obscene lyrics from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s rap song, “WAP,” which stands for “Wet Ass P–y.”
A top former Spence board member pulled her daughter from the school over its “wokeness,” the New York Post reports.
The upset mom, Gabriela Baron, said the “blatantly racist” video “tarred and feathered” white women.
Spence Principal Bodie Brizendine apologized to parents this week, but they say it’s not good enough.
“Our teacher and the School acknowledge that sharing a satirical video that made fun of white women was a significant mistake,” the principal said. “We take this seriously; it is never acceptable to ridicule anyone at any time, and this is contrary to everything we know about our mission. We fully trust the professionalism of our dedicated faculty, and we will be strengthening faculty protocols.”
The mom said, “This is becoming a culture war.”
