Disney Under Fire for Not Having Fat Princesses

Snow White and Cinderella may be damaging your daughter’s self-esteem. That’s the findings from a new study by the University of California. They say the body shape of Disney princesses could make young girls self-conscious about their body type.

“Disney princesses are presented to children as aspirational characters,’ researchers wrote in a story first reported by the Daily Mail. “For example, Disney princesses are often depicted as extremely thin, and their thinness is often associated with their desirability (e.g., Snow White is referred to as the “fairest of them all” and Aurora is blessed with the “gift of beauty” in their respective films).”

In other words – Snow White, Cinderella and Rapunzel are too skinny and Disney needs some big-boned princesses.

USC says movies featuring skinny girls reinforces the social narrative that thinness is more socially desirable.

“Disney films with thin princesses may reinforce the social narrative that thinness is more socially desirable, or as other authors have written, goodness is equated with thinness,” researchers said.

There’s no word on whether Disney will produce films starring fatties or full-figured princesses. But don’t be surprised if Cinderella’s carriage turns into a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
