The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade featured what they called a history-making first: a performance from the “Queer Big Apple Corps” marching band.
NBC said it was important to send a message to the nation “that despite adversity, it’s ok to be yourself.”

“The Queer Big Apple Corps is marching into the history books this Thanksgiving,” NBC News wrote on social media. “The band will perform loud and proud at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday.”
LGBT activists hailed the band’s inclusion in the parade as an opportunity to groom children.
“The most important message for our band (@queerbac) being in this parade is visibility for our queer community, especially for all of those little kids that are in places where they don’t feel accepted or like they belong,” GLAAD wrote on social media. “There is a place for them.”
No doubt many parents had to explain to their three-year-olds what a “Queer Big Apple” was. At least it wasn’t a brigade of bananas.
