The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) issued a statement Sunday night after Will Smith slapped Academy Awards host Chris Rock for a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett.

The “King Richard” actor marched on stage, struck Rock, then shouted from his seat, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–ing mouth!”
Rock responded, “Wow, dude! It was a G.I. Jane Joke…I’m going to, Ok?”
The LAPD said Rock declined to press charges against Smith.

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program,” the statement read. “The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report.
