Ashley Judd shared the “uncomfortable” news of how her mother, Grammy-winning country star Naomi Judd, killed herself.
“Mother used a firearm,” Ashley Judd told ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
“That’s the piece of information that we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position that if we don’t say it, someone else is going to,” she explained.
The “Rockin’ With the Rythm of the Rain” singer died in the upstairs bedroom of her Nashville, Tennessee farmhouse where Ashley made the gruesome discovery.
“She obviously was suffering, and, as such, her days up until that moment were hurtful to her,” Judd said.
“It was a mixed day,” Ashley Judd recalled. “I was at the house visiting, as I am every day, and mom said to me ‘will you stay with me?’ and I said: ‘Of course I will.’”
Judd said she left to greet a family friend and returned to find her mother’s dead body.
“I went upstairs to let her know that the friend was there and I discovered her,” Judd stated. “I have both grief and trauma from discovering her.”
At first Ashley Judd and her sister, Wynonna Judd, said their mother died due to “the disease of mental illness.”
