A domestic terrorist was run over by a deacon driving a Ford F-150 truck and was shot by a security guard at a church in Wayne, Michigan. The terrorist is dead and at least one person was injured.
The shooting happened at CrossPointe Community Church.
Responding officers learned that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspected shooter, who police say is a 31-year-old man.
“He was run over by one of our members who saw this happening when he was coming into church,” Pastor Bobby Kelly told the Detroit News.
One person was shot in the leg, officials said. It’s unknown if anyone else was injured.
Police are investigating and ask that people to avoid the area.
Dan Bongino, the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said in a post on X Sunday afternoon that leadership and support teams are at the scene “providing assistance and investigative support.”
Witness Wendy Bodin told Channel 4 News in Detroit she went out in the lobby to answer a phone call when she saw a man on the ground and heard a big boom.
She said she thought he got hit or crashed his car — another woman told her to call 911. Bodin said she started to call 911 and then she heard a “pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop” sound and she “booked it to the bathroom” where she hid with another person.
Bodin said they heard footsteps running and “a lot of gunshots” and that she and the other person remained in the bathroom until “everything was quiet.” After that, they got out of the building and went into the woods where other people were gathered.
“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been involved in,” Bodin said. “I was hiding in one of the bathrooms and stood on the toilet and shut the door.”
This is yet another reminder that every church in America should have a well-trained security team — and at least one deacon with a Ford F-150 truck.
