Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was one of the loudest critics in the room – making unfounded allegations about those of us who cherish the right to practice our faith in the public marketplace.
“It’s very difficult to sit here and listen to arguments in a long history of this country of using Scripture and weaponizing and abusing Scripture to justify bigotry,” she said. “White Supremacists have done it. Those who justified slavery did it. Those who fought against integration did it and we are seeing it today.”
AOC said her Catholic faith compels her to believe that all people are holy and all people are sacred.
“I am tired of communities of faith being weaponized and being mischaracterized because the only time religious freedom is invoked is in the name of bigotry and discrimination,” she said.
