Fox News published a story that ripped the “God Bless the USA” Bible, a gift book promoted by former President Trump that also includes a copy of the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance and the lyrics to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.”
“Christian leaders react to Trump’s ‘God Bless the USA’ bibles: ‘More Trump than Bible?,’ the headline read. The story, which appeared on FoxNews.com, also failed to capitalize the word “Bible.”

“The inclusion of secular documents in the ‘God Bless the USA’ bibles was a controversial choice. While texts such as the Declaration of Independence and Pledge of Allegiance make passing reference to a ‘Creator’ and ‘God,’ they are not necessarily religiously centered documents,” the Fox News reporter wrote.
Among those interviewed for the article was Daniel Darling, of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He told Fox News that Trump should have been aware of the optics of his promotion of the Bible.
“Many Christians, even those like me who are very conservative both politically and theologically, thought his approach was a bit crass,” he told Fox News Digital. “While many Christians are deeply patriotic and revere our nation’s documents, they are wary of mixing those things too closely inside the pages of a Bible.”
“Trump selling this Bible seems a bit commercial, though I doubt he intended to offend Christians. He likely thought he was doing a good thing,” Darling went on to say. “But a Bible endorsed by any politician smacks of syncretism and an over-the-top civil religion that cheapens the Bible when it’s used as a political prop.”
The story did include an interview with at least one religious leader who found no issue with Trump promoting the sale of the Bible.
For the record, the “God Bless the USA Bible” has been on the market for a number of years. And Christian bookstores across the nation are filled with special-edition, gift Bibles that are sold for more than twice as much as the “God Bless the USA Bible” is selling for.
Not only that, many religious leaders across the country publish numerous books based on the teachings of Christ — and they no doubt pocket lots of cash for their writings.
All that to say the criticism of President Trump smacks of hypocrisy.
I suspect the real reason why the wokevangelicals are upset is that President Trump urged Americans to pray, and read their Bibles and get back to church.
President Trump was kind enough to write an endorsement for my new book, “Twilight’s Last Gleaming: Can America Be Saved?” As I explained in my blueprint for how to restore our great nation, the only way to save America is for our people to return to the faith of our Founding Fathers. Only God can save America. Click here to read my book.
