Hollywood Bolted, But Kendrick Brothers are Still Filming in Georgia

At least five Hollywood productions companies have vowed to boycott the state of Georgia and many others are threatening to after Gov. Brian Kemp signed the so-called “Heartbeat Bill.

The law, which goes into effect in January, bans abortions once the doctor can detect a fetal heartbeat.

Among the production companies threatening to leave are Netflix, Disney, NBCUniversal and CBS/Showtime.

“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Netflix said in a statement to CNBC. “

It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court. Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there — while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.”

However, one major faith-based production company is not going anywhere — the Georgia-based Kendrick Brothers.

“We’re not pulling up stakes,” Alex Kendrick said on The Todd Starnes Radio Show. “We like Georgia. We like filming in Georgia.”

“Overcomer,” which opened in theaters Friday, was filmed in Columbus, Georgia.

“To be honest, I’m grateful that Brian Kemp said, ‘You know what, these are my convictions and we want to value life,'” Kendrick told me. “We believe that God has given us the gift of life. Life is precious and valuable.”

It’s nice to know there are still filmmakers like the Kendrick brothers who love God.

“We’re staying put,” he said.
