The good people of El Dorado County, California will no longer be able to celebrate American Christian History Month.

Lawmakers voted unanimously to overturn its decision to set aside the month of July as a time to honor the religious history of our great nation.

“This great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians,” Supervisor John Hidahl told the Sacramento Bee. “Not on religions but on a foundation of Christian principles and values.” The proclamation, he continued, is “clearly stating: don’t forget our history.”

Critics said the proclamation failed to represent the diversity of the county and some said it was a violation of the Constitution.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation – a Wisconsin-based gang of atheists – filed a complaint. They said the proclamation perpetuates the idea that the United States is a Christian nation.

“Hurrah for reason, inclusion and the principles of our secular Constitution triumphing against Christian nationalist propaganda,” snarled FFRF’s Annie Laurie Gaylor.

The American Civil Liberties Union also objected – saying the resolution “conveys that the County supports, promotes and endorses specific religious beliefs and, as such, violates the California Constitution.”

For the record, I believe our nation was meant to be a Christian nation. And most of our Founding Fathers asserted as much in their journals and papers.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation says our Constitution is godless and entirely secular. But our nation was founded by Christians, not atheists.

And it seems to me if we can set the month of June to celebrate the debauchery of the Alphabet Activists, we should be able to set aside a month to celebrate what makes our nation great.

We are one nation under God and to quote the great Ronald Reagan, without Divine Providence, we would be a nation gone under.
