It did not take long for the Academy Awards to go woke.
Actress-director Regina King admitted to the masked audience that she came close to becoming a militant in the aftermath of the George Floyd case.
“I have to be honest. If things had gone differently this past week in Minneapolis, I might’ve traded in my heels for marching boots,” King said of the Derek Chauvin verdict.
That sort of remark is why many people across the nation are wondering if Derek Chauvin got a fair trial.
Is it possible the jury feared people like Ms. King might take up arms against their fellow countrymen if they rendered anything but a guilty verdict?
Is it possible they feared for the safety of their family and their own lives unless they followed the demands of Black Lives Matter and Woke Hollywood?
“Now, I know that a lot of you people at home want to reach for you remote when you feel like Hollywood is preaching to you,” she said. “But as the mother of a black son, I know the fear that so many live with. And no amount of fame or fortune changes that. Okay?”
I’m not quite sure what else she said because I reached for the remote.
