CNN is trying to save face with the mainstream media after 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump manhandled its town hall host Kaitlan Collins.
At one point, the former president called Collins a “nasty person” after she kept interrupting him Wednesday night in New Hampshire.
The left-leaning network released a statement calling the “CNN This Morning” co-host an example of a “world-class journalist,” despite other journalists on Twitter lambasting her performance.
“She asked tough, fair and revealing questions,” CNN said in a statement. “And she followed up and fact-checked President Trump in real time to arm voters with crucial information about his positions as he enters the 2024 election as the Republican frontrunner.”
It added, “That is CNN’s role and responsibility: to get answers and hold the powerful to account.”
The 31-year-old host is reportedly being considered for a primetime slot by CNN CEO Chris Licht, just days after the firing of her co-host Don Lemon.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had a full-on meltdown.
“CNN should be ashamed of themselves,” the radical Leftist tweeted, adding, “The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host.”
Writer Kurt Andersen criticized Colins for not holding her own against Trump.
“So many lies unchallenged,” he tweeted. “Apart from his lies at the beginning about the 2020 election and January 6th, @kaitlancollins has basically let him spew falsehoods unchallenged. About the economy, inflation, abortion, everything. So wrong, @CNN.”
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and others fact-checked Collins in real time.
